Time flies, and the 12 weeks of remote internship have come to an end so quickly. It has been a very fulfilling 12 weeks, not only did I learn more about the culture of Nepal, but it also made me want to travel to Nepal right away. Even though the epidemic has prevented me from working in Nepal, it hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the country!
Here is what I experienced during my 12-week remote placement.
I don't think of overseas volunteering as "helping the underprivileged" or "a great experience to talk about" - strictly speaking, no one can define who is strong and who is weak, there is only the purest experience and sharing during the time spent overseas.
When the thought of comparison accidentally crosses your mind, you find yourself more and more tolerant and empathetic, and knowing how to be honest with yourself about life and yourself.
Now let's look at what it takes to be a successful intern.
1. The courage to challenge yourself: As the old Chinese saying goes, "It is better to walk a thousand miles than to read a thousand books ". The idea of challenging yourself is an absolute necessity because life is about discovering new horizons through constant breakthroughs.
2. A dedication and a passion for service: In order to become more in touch with the local culture, you will have a high level of dedication and learn how to give your care to an imbalanced world. And of course, a willingness to pour out your heart is essential.
3. A generous heart: As projects require group work, it is inevitable that there will be friction with others in the workplace. This is tis great time to observe, discuss and learn from others' ways of doing things.
4. Special expertise: Just like a company, each person in the volunteer programme will be assigned to a role that suits him or her according to his or her specialism. It is important to choose what you are comfortable with.
Finally, if you have the chance to work the host country, PLEASE DO SO! I am sure that you have a lot more fun compared to virtual internship.
