Present in the Philippines since 2013, CECI partners with communities affected by natural disasters, focusing on sustainable and inclusive solutions. In a context marked by persistent inequalities, geopolitical tensions, and high climate vulnerability, our actions aim to strengthen local adaptive capacities, highlighting the leadership of women and marginalized groups. The opening of our national office in 2025, now a regional hub for Asia—marks a significant milestone. CECI notably contributed to rebuilding efforts following major disasters in Bohol and after Typhoon Haiyan.
Today, our projects rely on volunteer engagement and social innovation to advance women’s leadership, climate adaptation, and inclusive governance, in tune with civic movements demanding greater justice and equality.
In the Philippines, CECI promotes women’s economic autonomy as a key driver of transformation. Through training in employability, workplace equality, and entrepreneurship, women from Leyte and Samar have been able to launch sustainable micro-enterprises. The WEMEAL project strengthened their skills, confidence, and access to local markets, contributing to fairer and more inclusive economies.
CECI supports climate adaptation by enhancing the resilience of coastal communities. In Leyte and Samar, initiatives such as mangrove reforestation, creation of marine protected areas, and restoration of degraded zones protect ecosystems while supporting local livelihoods. Additionally, the DO-COASTSS Alliance mobilizes authorities to better coordinate environmental actions, adopting a local approach that connects nature protection with climate justice.
With the new Sama-Sama project, CECI empowers women and marginalized groups to participate in democratic life in the Philippines. In the Visayas and Mindanao regions, displaced women, residents of informal settlements, and coastal communities are equipped to make their voices heard, access public services, and influence local decisions. Leadership, advocacy, and participatory governance are at the heart of this approach for a more inclusive and equitable democracy.
