CECI has operated in Nepal since 1987, reaching 66 districts across seven provinces through economic and social development programs and humanitarian aid. Activities focus on sustainable forest management, climate-resilient agriculture, disaster risk management and support to SMEs. CECI-Nepal has also supported major programs of adaptive social protection, as well as programs promoting inclusive local governance and citizen engagement. Our action highlights the inclusion of women, Indigenous populations and vulnerable and marginalized communities. Our programs integrate gender, equity and social inclusion issues in an integrated manner; thereby targeting the roots of inequalities, while promoting transformative gender equality. We promote the rights of women and girls by emphasizing equality and inclusion, ensuring their fair participation in development initiatives in Nepal.
Women’s economic empowerment is essential to achieving gender equality in Nepal, where women face systemic inequalities. Our tailored initiatives aim to bolster confidence, skills and autonomy among women and young girls through skill-based training and development opportunities, opening doors that were once closed. We integrate principles of positive masculinity and intersectional analysis across all development activities, recognizing WEE as vital for family survival, recovery and community resilience.
CECI-Nepal promotes climate change adaptation by merging science-based innovations with traditional knowledge, like vermicomposting for eco-friendly pest control. This method, utilizing earthworms to convert organic waste into fertilizer, offers a sustainable approach to compost production. We provide farmers with kits including earthworms and tools, alongside training on bio-pesticides' practical application. Additionally, we emphasize vermicomposting's economic benefits and marketing potential. CECI-Nepal and its partners offer continuous support and monitoring, aiding in bio-pesticide preparation and marketing.
CECI-Nepal promotes inclusive governance by fostering citizen engagement through information technologies and empowering women and marginalized groups in decision-making processes. Collaborating with civil society organizations and local governments, we strengthen policy documents to enhance inclusivity, increase representation, improve government responsiveness and empower marginalized communities to exercise their democratic rights in Nepal.
