Ongoing project
Global Affairs Canada
women receiving remittances, with a particular focus on Indigenous women aged 18 to 35.
The NIM KAT Project, meaning "A Great Network" in several Mayan languages, is a CECI initiative that aims to transform remittances into opportunities for inclusive local development in the departments of Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez and Sololá. It promotes the use of remittances as socio-economic investments through entrepreneurship, education, health, and skills development to improve employability.
The project works alongside women, particularly young Indigenous women, to expand their access to financial education, financial services, economic opportunities, and leadership and decision-making spaces. Through a gender-transformative and intersectional approach, it strengthens their agency while fostering more inclusive, sustainable, and culturally relevant entrepreneurial ecosystems where women are recognized as key actors in the economic development of their communities.
