The NbS Guinean Forests project aims to promote the adoption of nature-based and gender-sensitive solutions for climate change adaptation. The implementation of this project benefits from the experience of a diversity of local and international partners, including the Center for International Forestry Research and Global Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), ABANTU for Development, and the International Barcode of Life (IBOL).

The ecosystem of West African forests is threatened by climate change. To preserve it, the project aims to increase the leadership of women in Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Guinea in planning for adaptation to these changes. The restoration of degraded forests and the development of inclusive market systems are at the core of the proposed solutions.

Increasing Investments in Nature-Based Solutions with Income Potential for Women and Biodiversity Benefits

Private sector engagement in climate change mitigation is limited. We collaborate with key partners to identify and scale up investment initiatives that support women's commercial potential, including the marketing of non-timber forest products, combining climate adaptation and gender equality.

Enhancing Gender-Sensitive Restoration of Degraded Forests and Key Habitats

With 600 women and community groups trained in gender-sensitive forest restoration techniques, the project improves both women's incomes and ecosystem quality. Thus, communities will have tailored tools, the effects of climate change will be mitigated, and biodiversity will be preserved.

In three countries, the NbS Guinean Forests project invests in structures that support community adaptation preparedness for climate change. Restoring degraded forests will safeguard these landscapes essential to biodiversity and the surrounding communities.

A wide range of stakeholders are working on developing local capacities to mobilize evidence-based and context-relevant data. Additionally, the project employs an inclusive market systems approach to promote the engagement of women and vulnerable groups and prioritize nature-based solutions.
