Webinar - Acting for Equality - Women's Empowerment in Senegal

You are invited to participate in our first Acting for Equality webinar of the year in partnership with the Vues d'Afrique international film festival.

This webinar will consist of a discussion between Saphia Arhzaf, a volunteer in gender equality, Mamadou Diop, advisor on youth integration, and Erica Pomerance, a documentary filmmaker. They will discuss the issues and challenges related to women's economic empowerment in Senegalese society as well as potential strategies to overcome them.

This discussion will take place on February 9, 2022 at 12:00 pm (EST). 

It is part of the 2022 International Development Week.

Saphia Arhzaf
Saphia Arhzaf is CECI's volunteer advisor on gender equality to the Senegal National Council for Concertation and Rural Cooperation (CNCR). She was an Educational Researcher for CONFEMEN and has a master's degree in international and intercultural communications. Her work experience has seen her travel to Montreal, Marseille and Dakar. She strongly believes in equal rights and she is committed to cultural and social causes.

Mamadou Diop
Advisor on the integration of youth in agriculture, responsible for the College des Jeunes of the National Council for Concertation and Rural Cooperation (CNCR).

Erica Pomerance
Canadian documentary filmmaker with nearly fifty documentaries to her name. About twenty of these were made in French-speaking Africa. Her films cover topics such as maternal health, women's rights, the environment and intercultural exchanges. Erica is the founder of the Taling Dialo Initiative, an organization that provides introductory courses in audiovisual professions to young people aged 17 to 35 from French-speaking Africa and from Quebec's cultural communities. 

Ramatoulaye Seck 
Program Support Officer - CECI's Africa Division, holds a Master's degree in Economic Management and a Master's certificate in Human Resources from Ecornel University. She has over ten years of experience in international development, particularly in West Africa and recently in Canada.  A former U.S. State Department Women's Leadership Fellow, she has always been involved with women's organizations. She strongly believes that economic and social development requires the full integration of women in all decision-making processes.
