Humanitarian Response in Nepal Following the November 2023 Earthquake

Nepal

The 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck on November 3, 2023, impacted the Jajarkot region in the Karnali province of Nepal. It resulted in the deaths of 153 people, the destruction of 17,824 buildings, and the displacement of 21,404 families. The region, characterized by fragile geography and high poverty rates, experienced particularly severe losses.

To address this humanitarian emergency, CECI, through a fundraising appeal made last November, launched the SRLEAP project (Supporting the Resilience and Livelihoods of Earthquake-affected Communities) in collaboration with our partner SAPPROS. This project aims to support the livelihoods and resilience of severely affected communities.

Actions undertaken over the past year as part of the project include:

- Distribution of Emergency Aid: CECI provided temporary shelters, hygiene kits, warm clothing for students, and psychosocial support for affected individuals.

- Support for Economic Recovery: The project includes initiatives to aid the economic recovery of those affected. This includes the establishment or restoration of beehives and goat sheds, improvement of irrigation and sanitation systems, and various installations and distributions to support agricultural inputs.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the donors for their generous support. Thanks to your contributions, we have been able to provide vital aid to those affected by this disaster. Your support has not only allowed us to meet urgent needs but also to initiate actions for the reconstruction and economic recovery of the affected communities.

Thank you for your commitment and solidarity during this difficult time. Your help is essential to rebuilding lives and offering a better future to the affected populations.
