Montreal, November 13, 2023 - On November 3, 2023, at around 11:47 pm local time in Nepal (6:02 pm UTC), a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck the western province of Karnali. In the face of this catastrophe, we would like to reassure you that the entire CECI-Nepal team is safe and is already deploying humanitarian aid and sustainable development support to the earthquake victims. Affected families continue to be in dire need of shelter and hygiene kits. We are ready to receive any assistance to support priority needs.
Data compiled on November 5 by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) indicates the following:
Western Nepal is one of CECI-Nepal's working areas, where it has implemented various activities to promote SMEs, agriculture and health, in partnership with local NGOs and government agencies. CECI has local partnerships and networks to support efforts to respond to the destruction and human impact of the earthquake.
"CECI has been present in Nepal since 1987. It has a long experience of crisis intervention, with a great capacity for action in partnership with several Nepalese organizations. We are committed to the recovery and development of the populations affected by the earthquake in Nepal," emphasizes CECI's Managing Director, Philippe Dongier.
