Present in Nepal before, during and after the two earthquakes, Frédéric Séguin, photojournalist, witnessed the resilience of the courageous Nepalese people among the destruction. He now presents his latest photo exhibition; Eyes of Nepal. This exhibition aims to present a more human and personal vision of the disaster.
Presented only on the night of Thursday August 27th 2015 at Resto-Loft Fibo (215 Rue Notre-Dame West) in Old Montreal, Eyes of Nepal gives you an intimate look of the people through 23 large format pictures on brushed aluminium and is also a fundraising for the CECI – Centre for International Studies and Cooperation.
Co-founder of the non-profit Shoot to Help, it is during the course its first mission abroad that Frédéric went to Nepal. Shoot to Help mission is to promote international collaboration and positive impacts through photography. The team traveled across India, Myanmar and Nepal for five months, collaborating with many different NGOs. Having arrived two weeks before the first earthquake, Shoot to Help team had time to collaborate with the local staff of CECI before leaving Kathmandu. Plans changed following the disaster and Frédéric went back to the capital to cover the relief and support missions of CECI. It is during one of these field trips in the Sindhupalchowk region, on May 12th that the earth shook again. Being mere kilometers from the epicenter, Frédéric and the rest of the team had to run to escape the landslides and boulders.
Even through danger and destruction, the one thing that remained was not misery and sadness but rather an impression of resilience and hope. Without showing what was already everywhere on the news; crumpled houses and victims, Frédéric aims to show what impressed him most; the smiles and hope of the Nepalese. All the pictures were taken after the first and second earthquakes, sometimes even during the earthquakes.
Medias have already stopped talking about Nepal even though the situation is far from normal for the people over there. Rain season has hit hard and a lot of resources are needed for people and NGOs to rebuild the country. This exhibition does not only aim to remind of the current situation but also to raise funds by donating half of the profits from the sales directly to CECI.
Such an exhibition generates important production costs and it is possible to support the project while acquiring some of the prints and more.
