CECI strongly believes in the power of volunteer cooperation as a development tool. The commitment of thousands of volunteers on the ground has made our work possible, with sometimes brilliant results in development. Their involvement, altruism, readiness and day-to-day hard work with local partners are a testament to their devout solidarity and desire to work together to build a better world.
Thus, Claudio Nunes received the Rosario Demers Award, which recognizes the outstanding commitment of a CECI volunteer worker.
Claudio embodies all of the qualities of an international development volunteer. For nearly 25 years, Claudio has dedicated his life to supporting rural development in Latin America, including development programs.
He is currently on assignment with the Uniterra program in Coban, Guatemala, where he is a volunteer adviser on a project to control pests that are devastating the country’s cardamom crops.
In his more than 10 years of involvement in international volunteering, he has put his skills and scientific background to use assisting marginalized communities and groups. He has translated scientific information into plain language, making it an accessible tool to improve the living conditions of people facing adversity. The information he has made so accessible has had a lasting effect in communities. It is a gift that keeps on giving, as people continue to learn and pass that information along.
Claudio loves to share. He has promoted CECI near and far while on assignment, having published a number of articles on his blog on the Agenda 2030 website.
We are very proud to be able to count among our volunteers people who bring innovation, and thus be able to reward them. This recognition award celebrates the remarkable commitment that helps change lives.
