Every year on June 5th, the entire world comes together to celebrate World Environment Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and taking action to protect our planet.
This year, the theme "Generation Restoration" highlighted the importance of restoring degraded ecosystems, combating desertification, and building resilience to drought. In this spirit, CECI-Rwanda organized a series of activities to mark this day in a meaningful way.
One of the main activities was tree planting. With the participation of our team, local volunteers, and environmental partners, we planted fruit trees in the ACORD garden. A total of 18 trees were planted, including 8 passion fruit trees and 10 guava trees. This symbolic action underscored our commitment to ecosystem restoration and environmental preservation for future generations.
A pit compost was created to manage compostable waste, which will be used as manure or organic fertilizer.
In addition to tree planting and making pit compost, we also organized eco-responsibility awareness sessions. Interactive discussions addressed topics such as reducing plastic waste, sustainable water and electricity management, and adopting sustainable farming practices. We highlighted the notion that "The plate is in danger, and the danger is on the plate," emphasizing the importance of our dietary choices and consumption habits. We also discussed services that continuously contribute to environmental destruction and proposed solutions, including encouraging the use of public transportation to reduce the carbon footprint.
The event was also an opportunity to mobilize participants to raise awareness within their local communities about environmental protection. We encouraged them to recognize the importance of preserving our environment and to actively engage in conservation actions.
By working together, we demonstrated our collective power to create positive change and build a more sustainable future for all. At CECI, we remain committed to continuing our efforts to protect our planet and inspire others to join us in this mission.
"Join us in our mission for a greener and more prosperous world for all. Together, we can make a difference and change the world."
These activities are carried out within the framework of the Voluntary Cooperation Program funded by the Government of Canada.
