Work

Vietnam

Night workers 3 As mentioned in a previous post the workday starts early in Vietnam, but it also goes late for many. The crew in this photo were working around 8 at night (it got dark early there, around 6 - 6:30). I walked by this location on another night around 9:30 and they had finished, I think. One of them was sleeping outside on the gravel you see on the right side of frame and another was sleeping on top of a machine inside the fence. I believe poverty and conflict have made the Vietnamese a tough and determined people. It's no surprise they won the war. The Uniterra volunteers who arrive in early July just missed the 40th anniversary of their hard-won independence on April 30 this spring. The folks at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics told me it was quite a long and joyous celebration!
