The Technology Transfer Project for Farmers (PTTA) falls within the context of the efforts deployed by the state of Haiti to improve farming revenues and food security for small farmers in the North and Northeast departments. The project is structured around two central components: promoting the adoption of a better, sustainable farming technology, and strengthening the national seed service.

Support for the improvement of farming techniques…

The Alliance agricole internationale (AAI), under CECI’s leadership, is supporting 12,000 farmers in the municipalities of Saint-Raphaël, Dondon, Milot, Limonade, Quartier-Morin, Plaine du Nord, Acul du Nord, Pignon, Ranquitte and La Victoire. It offers them direct financial support, following the project’s eligibility criteria, in the form of vouchers for the purchase of farming goods and services necessary for the adoption of technical packages (a mix of techniques, cultural practices and inputs). This subsidy system calls for the creation of a directory of farmers as well as a directory of agricultural service and input providers.

… fostering higher productivity for farmers

The PTTA is introducing technical packages in order to improve performance for specific farming sectors, including coffee, cocoa, cashew nuts, cereals (rice and corn), tubers and root vegetables (yam, cassava and potato), market vegetables (onions, tomatoes, peppers, carrots and beets), fruits (citrus, pineapple and fig bananas), and plantain. The goal is to support the farmers in their efforts to increase productivity for their crops as well as to strengthen the national seed service. This mission is carried out in close partnership with the Direction Départementale Agricole du Nord (DDAN) and all relevant Bureaux Agricoles Communaux (BAC).
