A long-standing partner of CECI since the organization’s establishment in Nepal in 1990. Following Nepal’s democratization, SAPPROS contributed to the development of an independent and professional national NGO sector.
On November 3, 2023, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Jajarkot district, killing 154 people and injuring 366. The disaster damaged over 75,000 houses across ten districts, severely disrupting livelihoods, causing losses in livestock and agricultural production, and limiting access to water, creating precarious living conditions.
In response, CECI Montréal launched an appeal for donations to support relief and recovery efforts in Karnali province. With the funds collected, CECI partnered with SAPPROS Nepal to implement short-term recovery activities in the earthquake-affected areas, supporting six interventions: (i) commercial vegetable farming using low-cost, climate-smart technologies, (ii) construction of goat shelters, (iii) construction of beehive shelters, (iv) restoration of drinking water supply systems, (v) restoration of surface irrigation canals, and (vi) installation of electric mills.
We express our sincere gratitude to donors for their generous support. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to deliver vital assistance to people affected by this disaster. Your support not only addressed urgent needs but also initiated actions for reconstruction and economic recovery in earthquake-affected communities.
Thank you for your commitment and solidarity during this difficult time. Your support is essential to rebuilding lives and offering a better future to affected populations.
climate-smart agricultural technology sites established, with plastic tunnels, drip irrigation, and mulching, creating potential for commercial vegetable farming.
goat shelters built to support small and medium-scale goat farming, increasing income for earthquake-affected communities.
beehive shelters built, with honey production expected to increase by 1.5 times, supporting income recovery for beekeeping households.
restored water reservoir of 17,000 liters supplying 49 households through 7 newly restored community taps.
irrigation canal of 200 meters constructed, irrigating 13.74 hectares of farmland and benefiting 38 households cultivating vegetables, wheat, garlic, and ginger.
electric mills provided to a women’s group, reducing workload for 39 households.
We thank our donors and our implementing partner SAPPROS, without whom this project would not have been possible.
