Stakeholders Mobilized for Climate Action and Environmental Protection in Haiti
August 25, 2026In Haiti's Grand'Anse department, young people, women, local authorities, and community leaders came together to deepen their understanding of climate issues and strengthen their commitment to environmental protection.
Students, members of women's organizations, local authorities, and community leaders from the municipality of Corail, in Haiti's Grand'Anse department, took part in awareness-raising activities on environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and gender equality to mark World Environment Day on June 5, 2026.
This community mobilization helped strengthen participants' knowledge of environmental and climate issues, the role of women in climate adaptation and resilience, and encouraged the adoption of practices that support the protection and sustainable management of natural resources.
An Awareness Campaign Mobilizing Communities
This activity was part of an environmental and climate change awareness campaign carried out in the intervention areas of the Koridò Vèt project. Through conferences, community meetings, and awareness messages delivered during workshops, the campaign seeks to inform community members about the impacts of climate change on the lives of women and men and to promote practices that contribute to environmental protection and strengthen community resilience.
In Corail, the event provided an important opportunity to bring the community together around a shared objective: acting collectively to protect the environment and preserve life.
Students as Environmental Protection Ambassadors
Young people from several schools in the municipality of Corail played a central role in the mobilization. Through artistic performances, including songs and skits, students shared awareness messages about environmental protection, climate action, and the roles women play in managing natural resources.
Their engagement helped communicate these messages in a dynamic and accessible way while demonstrating the essential role that young people and women can play in fostering a culture of environmental stewardship within their families and communities.
A Competition Highlighting Women's Role in Environmental Management
The day also featured an award ceremony recognizing winners of a competition dedicated to the role of women in the sustainable management of natural resources. This initiative, involving students in their final year of secondary school, highlighted women's contributions to environmental protection and to communities' adaptation to climate change.
The awards ceremony was a meaningful moment of recognition and encouragement for participants, who are called upon to become awareness champions and actively promote environmentally responsible practices, climate resilience, and gender equality.
Implemented by CECI and VTI with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada, the Koridò Vèt project contributes to strengthening community engagement in climate resilience, sustainable natural resource management, and gender equality.
