At 45, Maria Sanon is an example of resilience and perseverance. Originally from the commune of Corail and living with a physical disability, she has overcome many obstacles to access education. Today, her participation in the project Koridò Vèt strengthens her commitment to gender equality, community resilience, and sustainable development.
Maria Sanon, 45, lives with a physical disability. Since childhood, she has faced discrimination and was the only one in her family who did not attend school. But at 16, Maria decided to take control of her future:
“ I wanted to learn how to read and write, so I worked hard in the fields, made charcoal, and traded goods to make it happen. ”
Thanks to her determination, Maria completed both her school and university studies, breaking barriers linked to her disability and to social prejudice.
Today, she participates in the activities of the project Koridò Vèt, implemented by the CECI and the VTI with the support of the Government of Canada. The training sessions on gender equality and climate change are already strengthening her resilience and her role within the community:
“ It makes me feel that I am like everyone else and that all my efforts to go to school were not in vain. ”
Maria sees the project Koridò Vèt as an opportunity to become more autonomous, build her own business, meet her family’s needs, create employment opportunities for young people, and promote respect and solidarity within her community by bringing together inclusion, resilience, and sustainable development.
