Stories of Resilience, Education and Leadership in Mali

August 24 to September 27, 2026
Time Out Market Montréal
Free admission

Through a series of photographs and personal stories, the FIERES exhibition highlights the journeys of girls, adolescent girls and young women in Mali who are pursuing their education, strengthening their leadership and building their futures despite the challenges they face.

The stories featured showcase the determination of those who return to school, develop new skills, speak up within their communities, and take action to defend their rights and the rights of other girls.

Each portrait offers a glimpse into realities that are often overlooked, while also celebrating the aspirations, achievements and potential of young people who are already contributing to positive change in their communities.

What you will discover:

  • Portraits and personal stories of participants in the FIERES project;
  • Stories of educational perseverance and pathways back to learning;
  • Initiatives that promote leadership, participation and empowerment among girls and young women;
  • Actions implemented to create more inclusive learning environments that reflect their realities;
  • Inspiring stories that demonstrate the transformative power of education.

Why this exhibition?

In Mali, security crises, population displacement and persistent inequalities continue to affect access to education, particularly for girls.

This exhibition aims to shed light on the challenges they face, but above all on their resilience, ambitions and the positive changes that become possible when communities, families and education stakeholders come together to support their success.

About the FIERES Project

The Resilient Girls and Education (FIERES) project is implemented by the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation and CECI, in collaboration with their partners in Mali.

The project seeks to improve access to quality, inclusive education that responds to the realities of girls and adolescent girls, while strengthening their participation within their schools and communities.

The project is made possible through funding from Global Affairs Canada and the generosity of many donors.
