Tribute to Thérèse Paquet-Sévigny: a life of conviction

Canada

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thérèse Paquet-Sévigny, on March 16, 2025, at the age of 91. At CECI, we wish to salute with respect and gratitude the deep commitment of this great figure of solidarity, who marked our organization with her vision, courage and dedication.

President of CECI's Board of Directors in the 1990s, Thérèse Paquet-Sévigny was part of a pivotal period in our history. A woman of conviction, she firmly believed in the power of international cooperation to build a more just and equitable world. She was a passionate advocate of the place of women in decision-making and of the essential role of communication in social transformation.

With a degree in sociology, she put her expertise to work in a number of high-profile positions, at Radio-Canada, the United Nations and in academia. But beyond her duties, it is her spirit of dialogue, her sense of ethics and her ability to bring people together that have made her an invaluable ally of CECI.

Throughout her career, she has been a tireless ambassador for human rights, freedom of expression and international cooperation. In particular, she has contributed to the creation of networks of communication chairs around the world, convinced that shared knowledge and intercultural exchange are levers for transformation.

Thérèse Paquet-Sévigny never contented herself with merely observing: she took action, carrying the voice of others, opening up paths for women, for young people, for communities often left on the margins. Her contribution to CECI continues to resonate in our actions, and her legacy inspires us to pursue our mission with boldness and determination.

To honour her memory and keep her ideals alive, the Paquet-Sévigny family invites donors to make an In Memoriam donation to CECI. This gesture provides concrete support for projects that were dear to her: empowering women, fostering inclusive systems and promoting social justice around the world: Make a donation
