For its second edition, the "Through the Lens of CECI" photo contest highlights captivating stories from communities around the world. This 2024 edition brought together passionate photographers and our teams, all determined to capture moments that illustrate resilience, leadership, and solidarity within our projects. We are excited to unveil the winning teams and share the inspiring stories behind these photos.
For over 20 years, the K'anchay organization has been promoting equal opportunities and social justice in the Quechua and Aymara communities of northern Potosi, Bolivia. In the photo, community leaders take part in training courses in agroecology and agricultural robotics at the San Marcos agroecological center. K'anchay is transforming the future of young indigenous people through quality education and sustainable economic initiatives. This project embodies the hope of a fairer future for these often marginalized populations.

Ana Supayave, an indigenous woman from Bolivia's Chiquitanía region, is photographed sorting coffee beans. Using methods that combine tradition and modern technology, she and other indigenous women are strengthening the livelihoods of their communities while preserving the environment. This project embodies the power of local economic initiatives for sustainable development.

In the Kindia region of Guinea, a group of rural women are fighting to preserve local forests. Supported by CECI, they organize economic interest groups to develop environmentally-friendly solutions. Their leadership not only inspires their communities, but also underlines the importance of collective commitment to preserving biodiversity.

In Mali, where 78% of women are illiterate, the FIERES (Filles et éducation résilientes) project is giving hope to thousands of girls and teenagers by offering them an education adapted to their needs. This project, run by CECI and the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie, has enabled 588 children, including 341 girls, to return to school and dream of a better future. The photo captures this moment of renewal and hope for these young Malian girls.

In Benin, women with disabilities are transforming their daily lives through wheelchair basketball. Through this sport, they break down prejudices, strengthen their autonomy and take part in national competitions. This project, supported by CECI and its volunteers, demonstrates that sport is a powerful vector for social inclusion and transforming lives.
