Who can resist markets? Obviously not me. I love the colours, smells, hustle & bustle and seeing how people do things differently - the way they use their limited space and arrange their produce. The market pictured may look "dirty" to western eyes but it functions quite well. I assure you the people eating the products from this market are not getting sick, myself included. While Vietnam is a very poor country I saw very few people who were destitute and living on the streets. I did see into many homes (during my wanders through alleys mostly) where extended familys were sitting on the floor to eat. They also slept on the floor on very small thin mats.
