Impacto para

300 young women of the Cité

The PQDI project targets the poorest people of the Cité de l’Éternel neighbourhood in Port-au- Prince. Its main goal is to improve the socioeconomic living conditions of young women aged 18 to 35 by getting them ready to integrate the job market through non-traditional trades.

Training at the Heart of the Project

The project looks to work specifically to train young women in non-traditional trades (masonry, welding, electromechanics, hydro-refrigeration, electricity and construction painting). To facilitate access to training, specific agreements were put in place with training institutes. Other activities aiming to improve young women’s capacity to defend their interests and actively seek employment will be implemented.

Specific Work With Businesses

The project also includes a component of engaging and building awareness among businesses. It seeks to convince businesses to offer jobs and internships to the young women after their training. To achieve this, advocacy work will be conducted with some thirty business owners to sensitize them and convince them of the importance and benefits of hiring young women in non-traditional trades. Finally, through the organization of a competition, the “Micro enterprise development” component aims to see at least 5 micro businesses created by groups of women after their training.
